Carolina Comets Celebrate an Unforgettable Weekend at the Lady Liberty Classic

Wed, 23 Sep 2026 22:55:28 GMT

YAPHANK, N.Y. — The Carolina Comets had plenty to celebrate at the 2026 Lady Liberty Classic, as both the 12U and 17U teams finished undefeated while representing the Carolinas on Long Island.

Across six games, the two Comets teams went a combined 6–0, scoring 73 runs while allowing just five. Those numbers are certainly something to be proud of, but they tell only part of the story.

The weekend was another opportunity for our girls to travel together, compete against other all-girls baseball programs, strengthen friendships and be part of the growing community surrounding girls baseball.

And on the field, they played some outstanding baseball.

12U Finishes 3–0

The 12U Comets opened the weekend with a 16–1 victory over the NY Wonders before earning a 16–0 win over the Slaterettes. They closed the weekend Sunday with an 18–0 victory over the Philly Flames.

Altogether, the 12U team scored 50 runs while allowing just one over three games.

Several Comets had memorable weekends at the plate. Gracie Strickland went 6-for-6 with two doubles, a triple and eight RBI. Q’Ja-Nae Martinus drove in 11 runs while collecting a double, triple and home run, and Eleanor Thiffault added two home runs and six RBI.

Ellie Louis finished 5-for-6 with six runs scored, while Eva Saulnier collected four hits and a triple. Tatum Willard and Alessia Genovese each drove in five runs as the Comets received contributions throughout the lineup.

The pitching staff turned in a strong weekend of its own. Seven different Comets took the mound, combining to allow just two hits over 11 innings while striking out 22. After allowing one run in the opening game, the 12U team finished the tournament with consecutive shutouts.

17U Completes an Unbeaten Weekend

The 17U Comets began their weekend with a 5–0 victory over DC Force and followed it with a 7–4 win over the NY Wonders. They returned Sunday and closed the tournament with an 11–0 victory over DC Force to finish 3–0.

The team scored 23 runs while allowing four, with two of its three victories coming by shutout.

Sophia Faraci led the way offensively with seven hits in nine at-bats, driving in five runs without striking out during the tournament. Lee Jacobs and Stella Damiani each hit .500, while Annabelle Speck finished 3-for-7 and reached base at a .500 clip.

Abi Cullinane drove in a team-high six runs, and Jayla Romondt added three RBI as the Comets received production from throughout the lineup.

Damiani Nearly Perfect on the Mound

One of the weekend's standout individual performances came from Stella Damiani, who was nearly perfect in her start.

Damiani worked five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out nine. She faced only 16 batters — just one over the minimum for five innings — and held opposing hitters to a .067 batting average.

It was an outstanding outing from start to finish and one of the highlights of a strong weekend for the entire 17U pitching staff.

Sophia Faraci added three scoreless innings of her own, allowing no hits and striking out two. Along with contributions from Lee Jacobs, Joanne Nunes and Jayla Romondt, the staff covered 16 innings with a 1.31 team ERA, struck out 20 and recorded two shutouts.

More Than the Final Score

Finishing the weekend with six wins between the two teams is something our players should be incredibly proud of. But some of the best moments from the Lady Liberty Classic won't ever appear in a GameChanger box score.

Trips like this are a big part of why the Carolina Comets exist.

Girls from across the United States, Canada and Curacao had the opportunity to travel together, share a dugout with other girls who love baseball, compete against girls baseball programs from other parts of the country and continue building friendships that extend well beyond the field.

For our younger players, it means seeing older girls continuing to play the game they love. For our older players, it means having the opportunity to lead and set an example for the girls coming behind them.

And for all of them, it means having a place where being a girl who loves baseball isn't unusual — it's exactly why everyone is there.

The Comets returned home from New York with six wins, plenty of memories and another reminder of what can happen when girls are given the opportunity to play the game they love alongside one another.

We couldn't be prouder of the way our players represented the Carolina Comets, their families and girls baseball throughout the Carolinas.

The wins made it a great weekend. The experience, friendships and memories made it a Comets weekend.

Girls Baseball Clinic with Team USA’s Anna Kimbrell

Building Opportunities: Why Tomorrow’s Clinic Matters for Girls in Baseball

Tomorrow is more than just a clinic.

It’s another step forward in something much bigger.

The Carolina Comets are proud to host a girls baseball clinic featuring Team USA athlete Anna Kimbrell — an opportunity for girls to learn, grow, and experience the game of baseball in an environment built specifically for them.

And that part matters.

Training with Team USA’s Anna Kimbrell

For generations, girls who love baseball have had limited options. Many have had to navigate spaces not designed for them, fight for opportunities, or transition away from the game altogether.

We’re changing that.

This clinic isn’t just about drills, reps, or mechanics — it’s about showing every girl who steps on the field that she belongs in this game.

When players learn from someone like Anna — who has competed at the highest level — it reinforces something powerful:

There is a path for them.

The Importance of Opportunities for Girls in Baseball

More Than Skills — It’s Representation

Representation matters in sports.

Seeing a woman succeed in baseball at the highest level does something that no speech or message can fully replicate. It makes the dream real.

Tomorrow, our players won’t just hear about what’s possible — they’ll see it, train with it, and experience it firsthand.

That’s how confidence is built.

That’s how belief grows.

That’s how futures are shaped.

Building Confidence Through Competition and Community

At Carolina Girls Baseball, everything we do centers around one idea:

Give girls a place to play baseball — and watch what happens.

When girls are given the right environment:

They compete harder

They develop faster

They lead with confidence

They support each other

Clinics like this are a key part of that mission. They provide access, exposure, and inspiration — all in one place.

Growing Girls Baseball in North Carolina and Beyond

This Is Just the Beginning

What we’re building isn’t just a team.

It’s a movement.

From local clinics to national tournaments like Baseball For All Nationals, every opportunity we create is about expanding the game and making sure no girl feels like baseball isn’t for her.

Tomorrow is one day — but its impact can last a lifetime.

To Every Player Attending

Show up ready to work.

Ask questions.

Compete.

Have fun.

But most importantly — take it all in.

Because you’re part of something special.

Sign-up for tomorrows clinic.

Alessia Genovese Selected for Little League Baseball Legacy Series

Wed, 18 Mar 2026 04:26:03 GMT

Carolina Comets player Alessia Genovese has been selected as one of just 96 athletes nationwide to attend the Maria Pepe Little League Baseball Legacy Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. This prestigious event brings together some of the top girls baseball players in the country to celebrate the growth of the game and honor the legacy of Maria Pepe, a trailblazer for girls in baseball.

Alessia’s selection is a testament to her hard work, dedication, and passion for the game. Competing at a high level while continuing to grow and develop, she represents everything the Carolina Comets stand for—commitment, resilience, and a love for baseball.

The Legacy Series provides a unique opportunity for players to compete, connect, and be part of the continued expansion of girls baseball across the country. Events like this play a critical role in creating pathways for female athletes and increasing visibility for girls in the sport.

At Carolina Girls Baseball Inc., we are proud to support athletes like Alessia as they pursue opportunities to compete on a national stage. Her selection highlights the growing presence of girls baseball in the Carolinas and reinforces our mission to build lasting opportunities for female players.

We are excited to see Alessia represent the Carolina Comets in Williamsport and look forward to following her journey at the Legacy Series.

Launch of the Carolina Comets

Wed, 10 Dec 2025 04:46:38 GMT

Introducing the Carolina Comets: A New Era for Girls’ Baseball in the Carolinas

There’s something special happening on the field this year. A new team is taking shape. One built on passion, opportunity, and the belief that every girl who loves baseball deserves a place to shine. We are proud to announce the launch of the Carolina Comets, a dedicated girls’ travel baseball program created to develop strong athletes, build confidence, and expand opportunities for girls across our region and beyond.

Why We Started the Comets

The Comets were born from a simple idea: girls belong in baseball, not as exceptions, but as athletes with skill, drive, and a future in the sport.

We saw a need for a team that offered more than just a place to play. So we built a program grounded in three core beliefs:

1. Every girl deserves high-quality development.

2. Belonging matters.

3. Opportunities should be accessible.

Our coaching staff is committed to teaching fundamentals, building advanced skills, and helping each athlete reach her potential. From throwing mechanics to leadership on the field, we focus on long-term growth, not just wins and losses.

Girls stay in sports when they feel supported, valued, and part of something meaningful. That’s why we’ve created a culture defined by respect, encouragement, and teamwork. Every player has a role. Every player has a voice. Every player belongs.

Girls’ baseball is growing nationwide, but access remains uneven. The Comets aim to expand local opportunities by providing a welcoming entry point for new players while also developing pathways to competitive and high-performance levels as the program grows.

What Players Can Expect

The Carolina Comets aren’t just starting a team, we’re building a movement.

Players will benefit from:

Skill-focused coaching tailored to each age group
A positive, inclusive team environment
Opportunities to compete, learn, and grow
Friendships and memories that last far beyond the season

Whether your daughter is new to baseball or already dreaming of national teams, the Comets offer a place where she can thrive.

Join Us on This Journey

The launch of the Carolina Comets is more than a new team, it’s the beginning of a community. A place where girls can dream big, work hard, and take the field with confidence.

We invite families, supporters, and athletes to join us as we take this exciting next step for girls’ sports in the Carolinas.
There’s a lot of work ahead, but the future is bright, and it’s already taking flight.

Welcome to the Carolina Comets.
Let’s make history together
